LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE BEFORE MEN…
that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
This is the theme verse of this summer’s mission trip to Mexico, but as I read it, I began thinking of the end of the school year. I thought of all of the students who are graduating from the various levels of schooling and moving on to yet another year of education, or perhaps out into the world of earning a living and all that goes along with that. At every level there will be new adventures and experiences waiting. There will be highs and lows, victories and defeats and always new challenges to rise up to. The end of a school year is an exciting time! It means for many students that there will be a break from the daily routine of school. It’s most likely a welcome change.
But one thing doesn’t change at any stage of life, our calling to let our lights shine before men. The fact is that most Christians feel a bit uneasy talking to others about God’s plan through Jesus Christ. As this summer begins and along with it for many of you a new phase of life, you may have many fears, apprehensions, and questions about what is to come. You may wonder if you are truly prepared for that next step in life and if you really know how to “let your light shine”.
Just remember that as a Christian, you are called to witness to others about Jesus and that God will equip you for that work. He doesn’t push you out into the world without the proper equipment for the task of spreading His Word. And remember, God is the one who changes lives. That’s His work! Your privilege as a Christian is to develop friendships with others and gently guide them to the God who loves them more than you can imagine. Your “work” is to do what’s possible while leaving God to do the impossible – transforming a life.
Let the summer begin! Blessings! Karl Roeske
