STUDENT COUNCIL CONSISTS OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 5-8
There will be 3 representatives from each grade. (One member will be elected by the student body, the spring of the preceding year, one member will be elected by the faculty, and the third member will be selected by random drawing.)

GUIDELINES FOR STUDENT COUNCIL PARTICIPANTS
1.) A GOOD ROLE MODEL – This means that the participant…
has a good Christian attitude about self, other students and staff.
cares about school spirit.
shows responsibility for completing quality assignments on time and maintains the school eligibility standards.
is respectful toward others both in and out of the classroom.
2.) HAS AN INTEREST IN BEING A CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL - This means that the participant…
is willing to accept responsibility on the council, as well as to follow through on them.
is able to speak in front of a classroom of students to keep them informed about council meetings, as well as to present their ideas at the meetings.
is interested in contributing his/her talents and abilities in a positive and caring manner.
is able to show good listening abilities, as well as be willing to learn how to help others with problem solving when needed.
3.) OTHER INFORMATION TO CONSIDER
We will need at least one parent advisor to assist with student council. He/She would need to attend the meetings and help with fund-raising activities.
Meetings begin at 7:00 a.m. every second and fourth Tuesday morning of each month during the school year. You will be allowed two unexcused absences for council meetings (illness is excused) and three tardies (arrival to meeting between 7:05 and 7:20 – after 7:20, you are considered absent without excuse.)
4.) ACTIVITIES THAT THE STUDENT COUNCIL SPONSORS OR HAS SPONSORED IN THE PAST
Advent Calendar Sale
Bake Sale – donation to charity
Big “G” Boxtops for Education collection – provides funds for the school, such as playground equipment, and the end of the year dance.
Bowl-A-Thon – Money raised from this middle school event is used to support four children from Compassion
Caroling at an area Nursing Home
Carnation Sale – donation to missionaries
Chocolate Rose Sale – supports our school
Coin Crusade – Christmas gifts for Lasata and Bethesda residents or Compassion
Collecting pencils, erasers, and pencil sharpeners for missionaries going to Africa
FIL Church and School organizations such as the art department, athletic fund, music department, Onward in Faith Fund, Organ Fund, Guardian Angel Fund, and others
Food drive – for Family Sharing
Give 2 the Troops – supplies and letters sent to those people serving in military forces over seas
Lollipop Sale – Money has been used to support children from the Christmas Giving Tree, the Help-A-Family Fund, or other school-related causes
Raking leaves for the elderly
