My personal relationship with Christ began when my parents brought me to the baptismal font as an infant. From early on, my parents instilled Christian values and beliefs into every part of my life. They strongly believed in nurturing their children with the Christian values and morals. They began by teaching me as a young child to pray and give thanks before and after meals. My parents faithfully took me to church.
They modeled Christ-like values in every aspect of their lives. Discipline was given with both the law and the gospel. Finally, my parents saw the importance of sending me to a Lutheran school where I could learn and grow in a Christian environment. Now as an adult, I can appreciate my Christian education, and thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to attend a school where I had the chance to learn about Jesus, His saving grace, and yes, even recite memory work. This upbringing has created a strong personal relationship with Christ as I moved into adulthood. I pray that this relationship will continue to develop and grow even stronger in the future.
It is evident that my childhood ties to religion and faith in Jesus have truly impacted my life in a positive way. For it is through these early ties and experiences in a Christian school that led me to become a Lutheran School teacher. Therefore, I strongly believe that the ultimate goal of a Christian Education is to share God’s saving grace with each and every child, as my teachers did for me years ago. God directed us to teach His children through His Holy Word. I believe that God’s Word, grace, and majesty can be woven into all curricula, including math, science, history, English, and so forth. We, as Christian educators at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, can give our students the necessary tools to handle the difficult situations that may arise in the future. Knowing that our Savior loves, cares, and forgives His children, will help our students face the unknown challenges yet to come.
