Nearly every river begins with a single trickle of water somewhere in the higher elevations. It may emerge from a mountain spring, or perhaps a snowfield that never fully melts. But somewhere, somehow, a tiny creek appears and begins its journey to the sea. Along the way, other creeks enter the first one as tributaries, adding volume and nutrients.
Before long, the creek becomes a brook, and the brook a stream, and then, at some undefined moment, it becomes a river, a mighty river, perhaps as big as the Columbia or Missouri.
On July 25, 2000, First Immanuel Lutheran Church established its first endowment fund. It was like a creek at the headwaters of what has now become a flowing source of financial resources. Like tributaries streaming in from other beginnings, additional endowments have been added along the way.
Today, our endowment program includes four separate endowments that have combined to become a river. This river runs right through First Immanuel Lutheran Church, providing financial nourishment to our programs and operations. The larger the river grows, the more we can accomplish. Like river water can turn desert ground into green pastures, so a growing flow of endowment resources can create new fields of fruitful productivity.
How would you like to become a “tributary” by creating an endowment fund that flows into our river of financial supply? It is easier than you might think.
